In the Eye of the Storm

Hurricane season is in full swing. Here in the Northeast, as well as all along the Atlantic and Gulf coasts, it’s common for local weather forecasts to provide updates on storms developing in the tropics that may develop into hurricanes. The reports often include projected paths of the storms as determined by the National Hurricane Center in Miami.

This weekend, like last, our area will be grazed by a hurricane. Last week, Hurricane Bill churned in the Atlantic Ocean for a few days. While we were spared a direct hit, heavy surf and beach erosion was a problem.

Now it’s Hurricane Danny that will travel in approximately the same path, only a little closer, making rain and wind a greater concern than we got from Bill.

In blog posts past, I’ve mentioned our two dock masterpiece, the iMM173 and all its wonderful functions. About a month ago, I first mentioned the iMM183 which features all the bells and whistles of iMM173 but has the additional luxury of weather band radio, complete with warnings and alarms.

Rest assured, folks, the iMM183 will be available very soon. I know all the storm watchers amongst us are waiting anxiously for it. On nice days, you can enjoy all the music and entertainment options. On bad days, you can keep informed and be safe thanks to the iMM183.

In the meantime, just ride out these next few storms. The iMM183 is on its way.

Against All Odds

Last night, Senator Edward M. Kennedy (D-MA.) passed away after battling brain cancer. He served in the United States Senate since 1962, an amazing 47 years. In that time, he witnessed the assassinations of two of his brothers, numerous family tragedies, political triumphs and setbacks and battled several personal demons.

Yet, through it all, “Teddy” was resilient. He remained stalwart in his political convictions and became a force with which to be reckoned on the Senate floor. He had become a “Statesman” in the true sense of the word, in many ways, because he was a focused survivor. I think it's safe to assume that most people should have the same aspiration.

These days, it’s the focused survivors who make the biggest impact in various aspects of life, whether it be in politics, business, or even electronics.

In a tough economy, companies are increasing prices, reducing product offerings and postponing projects. Not so at iLuv. We have always been committed to value and performance. Our prices remain competitive; our product offerings continue to grow; and our projects are ongoing. We are having a strong impact in the business because we are focused survivors, emerging as leaders in the market. In the world of consumer electronics, no company is as poised as iLuv to become the “Statesman” in the true sense of the word. Teddy would be proud of us.

Small is the New BIG

One of the idioms to which people have been accustomed over time is “Bigger is better.” Certainly, there was a time when this rang true.

When I was a kid, in the days before the Walkman, I can remember seeing people in the park wearing roller skates, knee socks, and satin jackets striding around with enormous boom boxes hoisted up on their shoulders so they could hear better. Widespread rumors abounded concerning the tiny Ford Pinto and how it would explode on impact if hit squarely from behind making “big car” advocates like my uncle buy his gargantuan 1974 Lincoln Continental.

When it comes to car adapters with USB connections, big just doesn’t cut it. While many newer cars have the cigarette lighters (generally referred to now as power outlets) in prominent positions on the dash board, but older cars sometimes have them low down or inside the ash tray where big and bulky adapters just won’t fit.

The iAD115 (reviewed in Gizmodo) essentially solves the problem of bulk. It’s remarkably small which helps it to fit in some awkward angles and tight spots. Its size also makes it easy to slip onto a jacket pocket or purse so you can bring it with you anywhere you go and still have the luxury of powering your iPod or other USB device any time you get in the car.

Peace and Music

This past weekend marked the 40^th Anniversary of the Woodstock Music and Art Fair, most commonly known simply as Woodstock. The three day event (it actually ran longer than three days) was promoted as “Three Days of Peace and Music,” and is arguably one of the most significant events in popular music history.

The Baby-boomer generation of the late 1960s, often categorized as the “counterculture” gleaned much of their identity from the music of the day. It was a volatile era marked by the civil rights movement, the war in Vietnam, and the assassinations of such notables as Martin Luther King, Jr. and Robert F. Kennedy. This generation found much relief and escape in music. As a result, Woodstock became an event that no one has been able to repeat, despite some attempts to do so.

In the 40 years that have followed, each generation has drawn much of its identity from the music to which it listens. For teens in the 1970s it was largely disco music. In the 1980s it was synth-pop and hair bands. The 90s saw a growth in grunge and hip-hop developing in parallel. Today, music tastes are all over the map in terms of sheer variety.
